Susan has specialized in the area of autism spectrum disorder as both a speech/language pathologist and autism consultant for 30 years. She has presented at many state and national workshops/conferences, and frequently provides trainings and student support, related to all aspects of ASD, to various groups and school districts across the country, Canada and Mexico.
Susan presents on a wide-variety of topics, with a particular focus on the use of technology and evidence-based practices as positive behavioral intervention and supports (PBIS) for learners with ASD.
In addition to providing trainings to support adults who support students with ASD, Susan provides school-based consultative services specific to individual students. This can include functional behavior assessments and development of behavior intervention plans; IEP development; as well as numerous practical suggestions for student specific skill acquisition shared within a collaborative team frame-work. Consultative services can also be classroom or program specific. Services can include engineering environments to best meet the needs of students with ASD; classroom management - including students and staff; and program specific trainings.
Susan also provides Individual coaching and / or consultant coaching and training for school and / or district teams based on a coaching model utilizing evidence-based practices to develop sustainability in meeting the overall programming needs of students with ASD.
Lastly, Susan conducts assessment / evaluations such as Independent Educational Evaluations (IEE) to determine eligibility criteria for an educational impairment of autism and speech / language evaluations to determine student communication needs.
